Coderus’ Mark Thomas Speaks out at CW2018 – Thinking Beyond The Hype

The annual CW International Conference might be over but the Coderus team had a fascinating day full of insightful speeches and varied networking sessions.

The event opened on 4th July 2018 at the Wellcome Genome Campus, which proved a great venue. Around 400 delegates were treated to an inspiring keynote from the likes of Matt Hatton, VP of Research at Gartner. As a startup building solutions for the IoT, the introduction of the Gartner Hype Cycle, which placed themes such as AI, blockchain and mobility into the conferences’ underlying theme, made for very interesting viewing.

We also enjoyed the heartfelt address from Rosalind Singleton, Chair of UK Broadband, which communicated a great message about the importance of people when deploying new tech.

Of the seven sessions that followed, the Coderus team took in a wide range of insightful tracks on topics in our area of expertise, including AI and mobility. Between sessions, we had ample networking opportunities and there was certainly plenty of traffic to the Coderus stand.

It was great to meet such a range of like-minded tech enthusiasts and of course to strike up great conversation with fellow exhibitors including Magna, Darktrace and ARM. The gala dinner, with after-dinner speaker, Dame Wendy Hall, was a wonderful end to the day. Wendy had the room listening and laughing with anecdotes from her inspirational life in tech: from time spent with Sir Tim Berners-Lee where she co-founded the Web Science Research Initiative, to her research in multimedia and web science and thoughts on artificial intelligence. As supporters of the DevelopHER initiative, it was an honour to hear from such a high-profile ambassador for women in tech.

Dame Wendy was not the only one put under the spotlight! Mark Thomas, Coderus CEO, was also interviewed by the CW team – see him in action below.
