Coderus Wins STEM Award in 2019 East Suffolk Business & Community Awards

As 2019 is soon coming to an end, we took a step back to reflect on the things we achieved this year and how we helped not only our customers reach their full potential, but the greater community as well. From engaging with local educational institutions to winning important Awards, Coderus is proud to have an ongoing commitment with the community.

As a team, we do a great deal to engage with educational institutions. Kesgrave High School has visited a number of times, where the children are invited to spend an afternoon at the Coderus offices and get insights from the tech sector and the working life within a software development company. As an active participant of British Science Week, this year we encouraged school children to design an app by thinking about an everyday problem that the app could solve. In addition to this, we have ongoing engagement programmes with the University of Essex, Anglia Ruskin, the University of East Anglia and the University of Suffolk.

Further to our school engagement, Coderus has been the driving force in the launch of the Creative Computing Club Foundation in Ipswich. The Creative Computing Club is a charitable organisation helping children develop skills and build careers within the tech sector. Coderus initiated a fundraising launch, which was raising funds to support the Club, by giving back reusable coffee mugs and encouraging the community to be more environmentally friendly.

In addition to our community involvement, we sponsor and support Ipswich Makerspace. As well as helping with facilitation of day-to-day operations, mentorship and guidance were given by Coderus to aid with its expansion. The Ipswich Makerspace is a group of like-minded makers who get together to learn, build and experiment with a huge variety of technology, including modern hardware, traditional craftworks and everything in between. It encourages young people into software engineering and provides a safe space for skills to be honed and nurtured. The Coderus team are actively supporting them, from hosting tech talks in the venue to helping with every day activities.

Coderus is also a proud sponsor of the DevelopHER Awards. For four years now, we have been sponsoring the great cause of these awards, acknowledging the efforts of women across all areas of technology. As well as organising Watch Parties, with live screenings of Google I/O and WWDC Conferences.

With a series of initiatives, we actively try to raise the bar and give back to the local community, by inspiring the younger generation. And we are honoured that our attempts have been recognised from the wider community. On October 3rd 2019, we won the Science, Tech, Engineering & Mathematics (STEM) Award from East Suffolk Business & Community Awards. Coderus was the winner because as a business, we have been driving the advancement and application of technology. We also got shortlisted for the Community Involvement Award from Suffolk Business Awards 2019, by East Anglian Daily Times.

On top of that, we are grateful to be part of the Future 50 programme, highlighting Norfolk & Suffolk’s most innovative and ambitious companies.
